Brown Recluse Spider Bites

Brown recluse spider bites are less common than on might think, yet are capable of killing children of seven years age or younger. Modern day rescue kits and first aid serums are available to those who live within the known prime regions of the brown recluse spider. Bites are often undetected at their onset, as the bite in and of itself can be painless. Those who do feel the initial pain of brown recluse spider bites report a tinge or burn much like that associated with a bee sting.

The possible danger with brown recluse spider bites is usually detectable within four to eight hours of the incident. A close examination of the attack site will often reveal two fang marks surrounded by a ring of red, irritated tissue. The initial injury is quite small, and often looks and feels quite innocent. If, however, the victim is to have a reaction and begin to show signs of disease, the first abnormal sensation will most likely be severe itching at the site. Severe pain at the site of brown recluse spider bites usually accompanies this itching sensation.

Internal symptoms will also begin to manifest themselves in those experiencing an adverse reaction to the potent spider venom, and these should be taken seriously and addressed immediately by medical professionals. Many feel nauseous at first, and this can continue to be an issue even if vomiting does not occur. The most common and painful symptom associated with this potentially fatal bite would be severe muscle pain. This pain has been described by survivors as a flaming sensation, as if they are being boiled from the inside. Though most adults make a full recuperation from brown recluse spider bites, the recounts are quite terrible indeed.

Experts assert that most reported cases of brown recluse sightings are false, as the thirteen other recluse spiders in this genus have many of the same characteristics but none of the feared venom. It is of the utmost importance that you do report any sightings which could possibly be a brown recluse, as research and information on behaviors and habitats are in constant need of replenishment.

If you feel that you have captured or come across a brown recluse spider, it is recommended that you either call your local animal control service or the non emergency department of your local police department. If they have time they will be glad to check it out for you.

If you feel that you can capture the specimen without causing danger to yourself, feel free to do so in order to impede any pending chance of attack. These spiders are not overly aggressive, but they can pack a punch when they feel threatened or infringed upon.
